Scenario in dates:
June 6, 1942: In the Aleutian Islands - The Japanese land a small force on Kiska Island. After overcoming the resistance of a ten-member crew of the US Navy´s meteorological station, two Americans are dead, seven captured and one, Chief Naval Officer William C. House, escapes. He will flee from Japanese search teams for another 50 days before being forced to give up due to starvation and the freezing conditions. For the first time since the British-American War in 1812, enemy troops occupy the home territory of the United States.
August 7, 1942: In the Aleutian Islands - An American task force bombards the Japanese-held island of Kiska.
September 14, 1942: In the Aleutian Islands - The Japanese-held island of Kiska is bombed by American forces.
December 9, 1942: Aleutian Islands - B-24D Liberator on meteorologic reconnaissance duty makes emergency landing on Atka Island due to bad weather. The crew survives, the wreck remains in place and later becomes a famous war monument.
January 12, 1943: In the Aleutian Islands - Amchitka Island is occupied by a small US force led by General Jones. Construction of airfield will start immediately. The destroyer USS Worden (DD-352) is lost in an accident.
April 2, 1943: In the Aleutian Islands - American aircraft conduct 8 raids on Kiska and one on Attu.
April 13, 1943: In the Aleutian Islands - US bombers conduct day and night raids on Kiska Island.
July 6, 1943: In the Aleutian Islands - An American force (4 cruisers and 4 destroyers) led by Admiral Giffen bombards Japanese positions on Kiska Island.
July 10, 1943: Over The Kuril Islands - Southern Shumshu and northern Paramushiru are attacked by eight B-25 bombers from base on Attu Island in the Aleutians. This action is a part of the preparations for the liberation of Kiska Island, a series of raids against the Kurils to suppress the Japanese air units stationed there and it is the first bombardment of Japanese area from Doolittle Raid in 1942.
July 22, 1943: In the Aleutian Islands - US naval forces (2 battleships and 4 cruisers as well as lighter units) bombard Japanese held Kiska Island.
July 27, 1943: North Pacific - Admiral Giffen´s Naval Task Force fights the so-called "Battle of the Pips". In the darkness of the night, based on the false radar contact of the battleships Mississipppi and Idaho, all ships fire on "enemy vessels" and before stopping it without an enemy response, battleships consume 518 356mm grenades and cruisers 487 203mm grenades. In the morning, the searching aircraft at the site of the "battle" finds nothing. Japanese Rear Admiral Kimura, with his evacuation fleet, drives undiscovered and unopposed to the Aleutian island of Kiska.
July 28, 1943: In the Aleutian Islands - The Japanese evacuate all of their garrison on Kiska Island with no being detected by American forces. The warships manage to arrive under cover of fog and depart with 5,000 men hastily embarked in less than an hour.
August 2, 1943: In the Aleutian Islands - American naval forces bombard Kiska Island, unaware that the Japanese garrison has been evacuated.
August 15, 1943: In the Aleutian Islands - An invasion of Kiska Island commences. Three American battleships, USS Pennsylvania (BB-38), USS Idaho (BB-42) and USS Tennessee (BB-43), provide support for the landing of 34,000 US and Canadian troops. The Japanese evacuated the island by the end of July but the Americans failed to take note of it.
August 17, 1943: Aleutians - After advancing through the island, the Americans reach the main Japanese camp on Kiska. They still has no idea that there is not a single Japanese on the island, and during tragic incidents, when shadows moving in the fog consider their own soldiers to be the enemy, 25 men are killed and 31 wounded in clashes. Shortly after midnight, the destroyer USS Abner Read (DD-526) is badly damaged by a naval mine.
August 22, 1943: Aleutians - US troops complete a search of the island of Kiska, in which they did not track down the enemy, only four dogs. One of the American pilots comments sarcastically: "We dropped 100,000 leaflets on Kiska, but the dogs could not read."
