Scenario in dates:
March 4, 1942: In the Central Pacific - American Admiral Halsey´s naval force attacks Marcus Island.
August 31, 1943: In the Central Pacific - American carrier based aircraft strike Marcus island. USS Independence (CVL-22), USS Essex (CV-9) and USS Yorktown (CV-10) are involved. These ships are part of the newly formed Fast Carrier Task Force. Board footage of the attack on Marcus will be used in the documentary movie The Fighting Lady (1944).
May 20, 1944: In Marcus Island - American aircraft the carriers of Task Group 58.2 (Admiral Montgomery) conduct a raid.
October 9, 1944: In Marcus Island - A US task force (Admiral Smith), consisting of cruisers and destroyers, shells Japanese positions.
August 31, 1945: In Marcus Island - The Japanese garrison surrenders to the American Admiral Whiting.
