Plan Rubber of U.S. military planners was reaction for a possible alternative to the involvement of Brazil in the war on the Axis side. The task was to secure Northern coast of Brazil. Its realization not occured.

Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia - Nazi occupying power in retaliation for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich exterminates the innocent village of Lidice. Men over the age of 15 are shot, women and children are abducted and the village is razed to the ground. Unlike many other settlements that met the same fate during the war, the Nazis publicly support this act of intimidating terror. However, the reaction of the world public has the opposite effect for the Third Reich, the effort to erase Lidice from the map leads to the mobilization of public opinion for the war effort, and settlements of the same name are established around the world. New Lidice is being founded, for example, in the United States, Mexico and in Brazil is even taking on the new female first name Lidice, which is given to newborn girls. |
