Historic overview:

Clipperton Island is a small flat island, rougly 1000 miles offshore the mexican coast in the Pacific. Since 1930 it's a french possession. The island measures about 2 miles in diameter and consists mostly of sand, coconut palms and a strange black rock about 38 ft. high. In anticipation of the japanese expansion in the Pacific, the USA decide to cooperate with the "Free French government" and establish a small submarine and torpedo-plane supply base on Clipperton Island. On the eve of the attack on Pearl Harbour a small japanese task force arrived near Clipperton Island, mainly to divert the Americans from the forthcoming japanese raid on Pearl Harbour.
